The rates of childhood and adolescent anxiety were 5 to 8 times higher than during World War II and the Great Depression before the pandemic. At least 38% of girls and 26% of boys will have at least one anxiety disorder before they are 18 years old. It is of critical importance that school-based professionals learn to recognize anxiety and related disorders among their students and become educated about evidence-based strategies to help reduce the level of suffering their anxious students are experiencing. 

The 12/5/23 webinar will be an extension of an ISACS presentation given by Dr. Dalton on 2/28/23. The 12/5/23 webinar will go into additional detail with concrete, school-based interventions, and will examine specific anxiety disorders that are common among students. Pushback regarding human sexuality and gender education is not new to American culture but has escalated significantly as the field has been politicized in recent years. There are multiple ways that independent schools can proactively and successfully respond to those who express reservations, while at the same time creating a safe environment for adults and children who hold personal, political, cultural, or religious views that conflict with school policy or practice. A tall order, but definitely doable!

Both indoor and outdoor classrooms are perfect spaces to explore STEM concepts, such as simple machines. Investigate ways to use the pulley, inclined plane, wheel and axle, wedge, screw, and lever, examine safety considerations, and set up STEM challenges with simple machines and loose parts in available indoor and outdoor spaces.
