Audience: CFOs, Heads of School & Human Resource Professionals
Description
Independent schools’ faculty and staff are indispensable to the school’s mission, yet many schools use inflexible compensation systems that have failed to support the schools’ missions or financial realities. Over the past two years, NBOA conducted extensive research on independent school compensation models with support from the E.E. Ford Foundation. Learn the key findings from this project and the research-based resources developed to leverage compensation strategies to attract, retain, motivate, and grow a high-quality and mission-aligned workforce. At a time when independent schools are seeking to reaffirm and reimagine who they are within a context that demands thoughtful allocation of finite resources, these insights and strategies are well-timed to foster growth, sustainability, and excellence in our schools.

How to Talk About Violence & Hate with Dignity & Compassion
Jason Craige Harris, Perception Strategies
3:00–4:00 pm central/4:00–5:00 pm eastern
Audience: Faculty & Administrators
Description
Violence and hate erupt with regularity in our world and, barraged by adult conversations and incessant media content, children see it too––but may not be able to make sense of it all in productive ways. How we talk about violence and hate––and our silence in the face of them––often further entrenches divides. What we say––and that we don't say anything at all––can stoke fear, anxiety, and deep polarization. In this session, participants will learn practices from the fields of conflict mediation and dialogue facilitation for having better conversations about challenging topics related to violence, antisemitism, and Islamophobia. Participants will also learn tips for engaging students in those conversations and intervening when such conversations go awry.
