Executive Summary:
Above, readers will find the composite report of the performance of the ISACS Schools
Class of ‘00 on the College Board SAT I & II (Scholastic Assessment Test and
Subject Area Tests, formerly the Achievement Tests). ISACS orders and pays for the
compilation of results from the College Board and makes the scores available to our
schools through the medium of this annual monograph on the topic.
Once again, the report is encouraging for ISACS schools:
The five-year comparison reveals that ISACS seniors consistently outperform their
college-bound counterparts as measured by the national norms.
The Class of ‘00 combined verbal and math scores for ISACS seniors (1169) is 150
points higher than that of their college-bound counterparts in general (1019) and 56
points higher than the average independent school schools nationwide (1113).
ISACS girls not only outperform their counterparts nationally but also are much closer
in performance to the ISACS boys (7 point overall differential, 1166 to 1173,
respectively) than is the national gender disparity (58 point differential, 1002 to 1060).
In fact, ISACS girls significantly outperform the national norm of college-bound boys.
They also outperform ISACS boys on the verbal portion of the SAT (588 to 575), in contrast
to the national trends where boys outperform girls on both the verbal and math portions of
the SAT.
On the SAT II (Subject Area Tests, the replacement for the former Achievement Tests),
ISACS seniors outperformed their national college-bound counterparts by 49 points, on
average, 641 to 592, indicating strong preparation for college-level work.
Since the "college-bound" sampling of the nation’s students represents
only a fraction of total high school students, approximately 50% of 18-year olds (i.e.,
those headed for college), ISACS seniors’ success in the testing program, in both
absolute and relative terms, is eloquent testimony to the earnestness of their scholarship
and the success of their school’s college-preparatory programs.
