Global Youth Leadership Institute

Begun by ISACS in the Summer of 2002, Youth Leadership Institute has now become the Global Youth Leadership Institute.

GYLI Mission

To nurture collaborative leadership for global communities and to assist schools in their mission to educate socially responsible young people.

GYLI Vision

Global Youth Leadership Institute will achieve this mission by providing the following:

  • Transformative educational programs that seek to build understanding of the self, empathy for the experiences of others, and organized teams to return to schools and communities committed to positive social change
  • Unique learning environments where adults and students are co-learners
  • Collaborative leadership models based on empathy and affirmation
  • Systematic, ongoing support for students and faculty in the program
  • New capacities to propel school initiatives for diversity and pluralism, environmental education, and international understanding

    GYLI Programs and Institutes

All GYLI programs are experiential, hands-on, and transformative. We immerse all participants-both students and adult-into experiences of pluralism based on religion, class, gender, age, cultural background, sexual orientation, and ability. Students and faculty then develop and revise their leader learning plans, plans that will be implemented in their home schools during the following school year. We know that if you look around you will not find a more ambitious, economical, and rewarding program.

GYLI is anchored by summer institutes for high school students, but we also create experiences around diversity and pluralism, native Americans, environmental awareness, school community partnerships, and the inner calls of teaching and learning for the following audiences:

  • Middle school students and faculty.
  • High school students and faculty.
  • Youth and their adult allies from various backgrounds and programs.
  • Teachers and adults who want to bring out the best in youth.
