School Description:

At Latin, students are given a strong foundation in the core subject areas of English, math, science, social studies, history, world languages and the arts. We understand that children learn best when they are engaged with the subject matter and can make real world connections. Starting in the lower school Latin's curriculum takes an interdisciplinary approach with a focus on experiential learning. Students connect with subjects through concrete experiences like role playing, simulations, lab work, or exploration outside the classroom. They are encouraged to approach issues analytically, think globally and understand subject matter from different points of view. Beyond the classroom, the pursuit of intellectual growth is complemented by a concern for the moral, physical, psychological and aesthetic development of each student. Community service and affective education, performing and visual arts, physical fitness and athletics are all integral parts of the Latin curriculum. Latin students are inspired and supported by an exceptional faculty. Our teachers-nearly 80 percent of whom have earned a master's degree or higher-are the heart of the school. They provide context, content and coherence to the learning environment, serve as role models and shape students' lives forever. Since 1888, Latin has fostered a tradition of excellence that is grounded in a rigorous academic program. At the same time, the school is continually enhancing its educational offerings to ensure their relevance for the increasingly complex and interconnected world of the 21st century.
