School Description:

Rochelle Zell Jewish High School creates a culture of academic excellence that inspires our students to think critically and achieve their full potential, while preparing them to live Judaism as responsible and involved citizens in the modern world.

Located 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Rochelle Zell is a private, full-day, co-educational high school for students in grades nine through twelve. Rochelle Zell opened its doors as Chicagoland Jewish High School (CJHS) in 2001 to 26 students. Our current enrollment of 174 students drawn from over 20 communities in the Chicago area and beyond. Approximately 65% of our students advance to Rochelle Zell from Jewish day schools. The remaining students attended local public and private schools before Rochelle Zell. In the fall of 2007, the school moved to a permanent, state-of-the-art campus located on 7.3 acres in Deerfield. In 2015, in recognition of a major gift from the Zell Family Foundation, the school was renamed Rochelle Zell Jewish High School in memory of Rochelle Zell, the mother of Sam Zell and great grandmother of two former students of the school.

Rochelle Zell offers a college preparatory program that combines a rigorous general studies education with a comprehensive Jewish studies education, supplemented by strong athletic and fine arts programs, and numerous extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities. General and Judaic studies are valued equally at Rochelle Zell. When possible, subject areas are integrated to enable students to experience the secular world from the perspective of Jewish values and practices. Small classes and individualized instruction help each student find his or her own voice, solve problems creatively, cultivate respect for individual differences, and develop a deep dedication to learning.

Admission to Rochelle Zell is competitive; students are evaluated based on their performance in junior high/middle school, standardized test results, faculty recommendations, and an interview.
