School Description:
Since opening in 1994, ISI has provided a rigorous academic program within a bilingual and multicultural environment. ISI is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorized for the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programs, providing a total of 15 years of IB education.   Lower school students currently have a choice of three language tracks: English/Spanish, English/French and English/Mandarin.   The school enrolls students from diverse national, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and offers limited financial help to qualified applicants. The pre-school program (age 3 to K) is a full immersion program with all classes taught in French, Mandarin or Spanish. In grades 1-3 English is used for about 20% of the week. In grades 4 and 5, half the day is taught in English and half in French, Mandarin or Spanish. The Lower School French track is authorized by the French Ministry of Education. The Upper School (Grades 6-12) program is mainly taught in English, but students fluent in French or Spanish continue to study Humanities in those languages. Students are also required to add a second foreign language from Grade 6. There is a particular focus on the sciences in Grades 8-10. The student body represents some 40 different heritage countries, but English is the first language of about 85% of the students. All students in Grades 11 and 12 are entered for the full IB Diploma. ISI graduates are accepted at universities of their choice in the US and abroad. ISI is affiliated with the Spanish Ministry of Education and recognized as an International Spanish Academy, and is also recognized as a Confucius Classroom under the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis and Hanban in China. The school personnel reflect the diversity of its student body and are recruited in the United States as well as from around the world. All language teachers are native speakers and we value the additional cultural richness that they bring with them. Students from the three-year-old class to Grade 3 are housed at 200 W. 49th Street in a historic school house. The rest of the school is on our extensive Michigan Road campus by the White River and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Long term plans include unifying the whole school on the Michigan Road campus.   ISI admits students and administers its programs without discrimination on the basis of sex, race, religion, national or ethnic origin.
