School Description:

Breck School offers a rigorous liberal arts education enriched by purposeful attention to the development of spiritual and moral values.

Established in 1886 under the auspices of the Episcopal Church, Breck is one of the oldest independent schools in the Upper Midwest. We are located on a 54-acre campus in Golden Valley, just west of  downtown Minneapolis.

Academic Leadership
Breck strives for a continuous P-12 curriculum that is broad, deep and well balanced. The curriculum, reflecting the mission and values of the school, focuses on the individual talents and abilities of students and seeks to prepare them for colleges appropriate to their abilities and interests. In addition to the traditional college-preparatory curriculum, Breck has developed a number of important signature programs, including P-12 Mandarin Chinese, Advanced Research Opportunities, a groundbreaking Multicultural Curriculum and one-to-one laptop program. Many of these programs are national models.

Breck has many mechanisms to meet the need of exceptional students, including enhanced, accelerated, honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students are regularly recognized at the state, national and international level for achievements in science, modern language, history, mathematics and the arts.

Our students are guided by an extraordinary faculty, of whom more than two-thirds hold post-graduate degrees. Several have been nationally recognized for their teaching or publishing.

Abundant professional development opportunities for faculty members assure their ability to pursue their research interests and enhance their teaching skills.

Civic Leadership
At Breck, we expect our students to be more than just leaders in the classroom. We expect them to be leaders in the broader community as well. For this reason, civic leadership is an integral part of our daily curriculum. The Twin Cities are a wonderful laboratory, and we are fortunate that we can utilize it through the service program in all three divisions.
