School Description:

University Liggett School, a coeducational, college preparatory day school, is Michigan's oldest independent school. In 1969 the current school was formed by a merger of Grosse Pointe University School (itself a merger of Detroit University School and the Grosse Pointe Country Day School) and The Liggett School, the earliest predecessor school, founded in 1878. In its desire to attract the most qualified student body, University Liggett School uses a highly selective admissions process that is based on academic record, references, testing, and a personal interview. Equally committed to financial aid, the school maintains a generous financial aid budget. University Liggett School welcomes a diverse student body of approximately 610 students that is representative of metropolitan Detroit. Our highly qualified faculty is recruited nationally, and demonstrates its commitment to lifelong learning by participation in workshops and grant programs throughout the year. The size of the faculty provides a student/teacher ratio of 8:1 and an average class size of 12.
