Behavior Management to Maximize Learning
Phil Beadle

Thursday, March 1, 2018
9:30 am - 3:00 pm

ISACS Classroom
Chicago, IL

Classroom management is at the core of effective teaching and learning at all levels.  We invite you to meet Phil Beadle, an award winning teacher, educational consultant, teacher trainer, public speaker, author and columnist who has received international praise and recognition for his engaging work in the power of all forms of classroom management.  You won't want to miss the opportunity to spend the day with an internationally recognized educator. This engaging and interactive day draws on Phil Beadle’s 20 years of experience working in challenging environments and demonstrates how the techniques learned in such schools can have powerful application in independent school classrooms. Look at the means through which an award-winning, internationally recognized teacher, who still teaches, manages classroom engagement and behavior to maximize learning in grades 1-12.

Participants will learn to:

  • examine why consistency, empathy and fairness are three of the core values any teacher should look to uphold
  • manage challenging situations
  • conduct a behavior impact analysis,  manage and analyze cycles of transmission and receipt
  • use body language, spoken language, tone of voice and facial expression to build productive relationships
  • understand how behavior works, look at the physiological aspects of reactive anger
  • use de-escalation techniques
  • praise recent positives, model desired behavior and use redirection techniques
  • understand the importance of humor

Phil Beadle is best known in Australia for his role in The Unteachables, which aired primetime on ABC1 and for which he won a Royal Television Society Award for best onscreen newcomer that year, Beadle has a long history of delivering transformational results to schools in challenging circumstances. Schools in which he has worked have been the most improved in the country, had the highest value-added scores in London. He is a former winner in the United Kingdom Secondary Teacher of the Year Award and the winner of the London Secondary Teacher of the Year award. He is a literacy and behavior management expert. He is also a vastly experienced teacher trainer. Responses to the training he provides include “the most inspiring speaker ever”. He has written for every newspaper in the UK, most memorably as an education columnist for The Guardian during which time he was nominated for a European Commission Award. Beadle has written nine books on teaching and learning. He is the editor of the How to Teach series and wrote the first book in the series, which was awarded 10/10 by the Times Educational Supplement, along with How to Teach LiteracyWhy are You Shouting at Us?: The Dos and Don’t of Behaviour Management (with John Murphy), Bad Education, and others.
