Make Your Foreign Language Lessons Smarter
Friday, April 28, 2017
9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Do you have a Smart Board, but feel that it could be doing more for you? Now is the time to put it to work. Participants will learn how to create activities to support language learning. We will create activities on site, so that you will go home with ready-made activities as well as the expertise to easily create future activities for your program. Examples will be from a lower school thematically-based French program, but the technology used is pertinent to middle and upper school programs, as well.
The workshop will include demonstrations of a wide range of technology-interactive activities. The visuals and interactive aspects of those activities could most likely be created using other interactive programs, not exclusively the Smart Board technology. Hans will provide time during the workshop for those with similar devices (i.e., Promethean Boards) to work together.
Please bring your laptop with SmartFile installed.
All foreign language teachers are welcome.
Throughout her career Patty Hans has taught French to students at all levels from ages 3-18 years old. For 15 years she spent summers working as a demonstration teacher and presenter at a FLES (Foreign Languages in the Elementary Schools) methods course at Concordia College with Carol Ann Dahlberg, author with Helena Curtain of Languages and Children, Making the Match, a widely used resource where Hans is featured. She has presented at ISACS, OAIS, the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Language, and The Ohio State University. She has presented on topics ranging from using themes and content-enriched activities to classroom management and the effective use of technology. Hans discovered the time-saving and language-enhancing capabilities of interactive classroom boards 10 years ago and will share her tips with you. She currently works with pre-school - 4th grade at the Wellington School where she continues to serve as a resource to The Ohio State University.
