We are excited to announce that the Trustee Day will be Thursday, November 5, 2015, at St. Paul RiverCentre. Designed as an extension of the ISACS Annual Conference, Trustee Day will be an energizing and thought-provoking day that will include a series of stimulating presentations and conversations. Included in the registration fee will presentations by Patrick Bassett, Allen J. Proctor, a copy of Allen Proctor's book, Linking Mission to Money: Finance for Non-Profit Leaders, and the opportunity to join the conference luncheon and hear the keynote presentation by Michael Fosberg.
Heads interested in hearing Pat Bassett and Allen J. Proctor will also find them presenting within the Annual Conference program on Thursday. Allen J. Proctor will present at 9:00 am and Pat Bassett will present at 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm. If preferred, heads may register to join their board members at Trustee Day. For heads who plan to attend Trustee Day and the Friday Annual Conference, please register separately for each event.
The program will be as follows:
Governance 101/201/301: This presentation will include role plays and video case studies to define the "jobs" and boundaries of the major constituencies (board; parents; alumni; faculty/staff; and head/admin team). This session will focus on three levels of governance for high functioning boards (fiduciary, strategic, and generative). Bassett will apply these three levels as the lenses of oversight, foresight, and insight to the challenges and opportunities facing the school. Modeled in the session will be how boards should think and work.
Bassett's second topic for trustees will be:
Trends Impacting the Independent School Sector: This presentation is based on the research NAIS assembles in its annual NAIS Trendbook and will extract from each of the last three years’ Trendbooks the common trends and topics to which boards and school leaders should pay attention: shifts in the economy related to purchasing power; shifts in school-age and teacher demographics; the landscape of access and affordability related to financial aid trends; student safety, health, and school climate; the philanthropy outlook; changes in the American family; and the diversity outlook.
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Workshop with Allen J. Proctor: Silver Bullets That Can Turn to Lead
