THE ROLE OF THE ISACS TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE
June, 2010
The collective vision and creativity of ISACS teachers has been sincerely valued and formally recognized for many years. ISACS is the only association of schools that invites teachers to play a leadership role alongside Heads of School. Each school has two votes regarding ISACS policies: one held by the Head of School and one held by the Teacher Representative.

ISACS Teacher Representatives are appointed by the Head of School. In large schools (enrollment over 500), where more than one Teacher Rep might be helpful; each division or campus might identify a representative. Responsibilities will have some impact on the teacher’s workload and serving as the Rep will also require a financial commitment by the school to support attendance and travel to the ISACS Annual Conference each year. Generally, ISACS Reps serve a term of three years.

Expectations of the Teacher Rep include:
  • Embracing, and modeling for peers, the commitment of professional development and life-long learning;
  • Serving as the key contact at the school level for professional development matters and assuming a leadership role in professional development activities for faculty;
  • Serving as the school’s liaison on professional development matters at the local, state, and regional association levels;
  • Serving as a member of the state or regional TSC (Teacher Services Committee) and attending those meetings;
  • Promoting ISACS professional development opportunities and events at the school;
  • Attending the ISACS Annual Conference, November 4-5, 2010, in Chicago, IL;
  • Using and encouraging the use of the ISACS website (www.isacs.org) to point colleagues in the direction of useful resources, articles and links;
  • Keeping ISACS informed of dates, programs and details regarding professional development opportunities occurring at the local and state level for posting on the ISACS calendar of events; and
  • Critiquing the services of ISACS through periodic informal and formal evaluations.
